On Saturday, October 14th, a group of students from the NDSCS Automotive Technology program came together with their instructors, Mr. Pfeiff and Mr. Bitz, for a meaningful volunteer morning at the Fix It Forward Auto Care Center in South Fargo. These students demonstrated the power of community service by using their automotive skills to make a difference.

The Fix It Forward Auto Care Center serves as a place where individuals facing financial hardships can get their vehicles repaired, ensuring they have reliable transportation to work, school, and other essential destinations. Fix It Forward also refurbishes and donates vehicles to people in need.

During their volunteer morning, NDSCS Automotive Technology students rolled up their sleeves and put their skills to good use. They worked on vehicles that would either be donated to individuals in need and did repairs for customers who could not afford them.

On October 13th, 2023, North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) welcomed back one of its proud alumni, Cole Recker, who graduated in 2023 with a degree in Automotive Technology. Cole's return to the campus brought inspiration as he shared his remarkable journey since leaving NDSCS.

Originally from Maple Grove, Minnesota, Cole chose NDSCS for various compelling reasons. He highlighted the college's on-campus housing, affordable tuition, Snap-On tool discount, and the stellar reputation of its Automotive Technology program. He was excited about the opportunity to experience a 4-year college feel in a 2-year educational package. Cole reports that he loved his time at NDSCS, being just far enough away from home, and making great friendships with his classmates and others on campus. Despite there being other trade colleges closer to home than Wahpeton, Cole was drawn to NDSCS, and his decision has since proven to be a wise one.

During his visit, Cole had the opportunity to reconnect with his former instructors and engaged with current Auto Tech students, offering valuable insights into the industry. Cole's journey after graduation has been nothing short of impressive.

Cole's passion for high-end automobiles led him to intern at Ferrari, one of the most iconic names in the automotive world. His dedication and expertise eventually landed him a full-time position at Porsche Minneapolis. Notably, Cole has worked on some of the most luxurious and expensive cars, including a $5 million Ferrari La Ferrari.

In addition to his work, Cole has had exciting international experiences in the automotive industry. He traveled to Europe, where he had the opportunity to visit several prestigious European car manufacturers, further enhancing his knowledge and skills in the field.

Not limited to traditional automotive work, Cole is also actively involved in racing. He's a part of the crew for racing events like SCCA Spec Miata and DirtFish Rally, where he plays a role in servicing the vehicles. Cole finds excitement in the world of off-road racing, making it clear that his passion for automobiles goes beyond the showroom floor.

As Cole Recker continues to excel in his automotive career, his return to NDSCS serves as a reminder of the incredible opportunities that can unfold for students who pursue their passions and take advantage of the quality education provided by the College. His journey from student to successful industry professional is a testament to the value of hard work, dedication, and the excellent programs offered at NDSCS.

North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS), a leading institution of higher education, is thrilled to announce a significant growth in college enrollment for the fall 2023 semester. The institution has experienced a remarkable increase in the number of students choosing NDSCS as their educational home, reflecting the college's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.

The official headcount, taken on the 20^th instructional day each semester, shows that enrollment at NDSCS has risen to 3,140 for the fall semester of 2023, an increase of over 6% compared to the fall 2022 headcount. 

NDSCS President, Dr. Rod Flanigan, talks about the enrollment growth, "As we begin another transformative year at NDSCS, the increased enrollment is a testament to our unwavering commitment to students -- a commitment that includes creating the best possible educational experience for our students and a dedication to continuous improvement by our staff and faculty."

The 2023 NDSCS student body includes 1,505 full-time students and 1,635 part-time students. Students residing in an on-campus residence hall or a campus apartment increased nearly 3% over last fall.  Dr. Flanigan shared, “We're a two-year college with a four-year feel. Performing Arts, sports, and residential life are all key to the experience of being here at NDSCS. When the data shows more and more students are wanting to be part of that experience, I know we're on the right track.”

The noteworthy rise in enrollment underscores the trust that students and their families have placed in the institution to provide a world-class education and a supportive learning environment. The total number of students from North Dakota is 2,333, which comprises 74.3% of the student body. Minnesota students comprise 19.8% of the student body with the remainder drawn from 32 other states and 7 foreign countries. NDSCS enrolls students from 50 of the state’s 53 counties.

NDSCS is excited to embark on this new academic year with a thriving and diverse community of learners. As we celebrate this remarkable increase in enrollment, we remain steadfast in our mission to provide an exceptional education and prepare students for a bright and promising future.

Soccer is the world's most popular sport, with millions of fans across every continent. It is also the #1-played sport throughout North Dakota. This reach will bring in new audiences and add to the diverse student population at NDSCS.

Opening weekend events at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton will kick off on Saturday, August 19 when residence halls open for student move-in at 10 a.m. NDSCS has some exciting updates and events to share with students and the community:

Welcome Week, an annual series of events designed to help students connect to the College community and establish positive and healthy habits, will take place from August 19-25 and will include outdoor evening activities for new and returning students.

In addition to student move-in and events, NDSCS Dining Services is excited to share their recent updates with students — The Wildcat Express has added a taco/burrito restaurant and a burger restaurant, and the Wildcat Dining Room has developed a whole new layout, adding a pasta bar (that includes their delicious homemade Mac ‘N Cheese!), and various other food stations. The Den has also experienced updates over the summer to make it even better for our students to hang out and grab a snack at the new c-store.

North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Fire Science degree program. This innovative program aims to provide local firefighters with a practical and affordable avenue to advance their careers in the fire service.

The Fire Science program will be taught at various locations, including fire stations across the region and the North Dakota Firefighters Association (NDFA) training center in Bismarck. Additionally, future academies are planned to take place at NDSCS campuses in Fargo and Wahpeton.

Designed to meet the needs of a wide array of fire service professionals, the program caters to both new candidates seeking to join the field and veteran firefighters aiming to enhance their expertise. Cities such as Fargo, West Fargo, and Moorhead have already expressed interest in the program and arrangements are being made to enroll students from North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

The Fire Science program is estimated to cost $10,835 for a student without any prior college credits or firefighter credentials. Recognition for Prior Learning options are also available for recently trained firefighters. Graduates will obtain a degree in Fire Science that not only equips them with advanced knowledge but also significantly enhances their career prospects within the fire service industry.

The NDSCS Fire Science program is guided by experienced leaders and instructors with deep knowledge and expertise in the field. They will ensure that the training delivered is rigorous, practical, and aligned with the evolving needs of the fire service industry.

NDSCS is thrilled to offer this much-needed program and looks forward to fostering a new generation of highly skilled firefighters ready to serve and protect their communities.

We are delighted to extend the program to volunteer firefighters as well. They can participate in NDFA regional academies throughout North Dakota, and efforts are underway to provide classes in other states.
